Raghav Kapoor brings nearly 25 years of investment and leadership experience spanning management consulting, investment banking, and hedge fund management across the United States, United Kingdom, and India.
After spending approximately 17 years in the US, Raghav returned to India to focus on investing in Indian equities. He initially managed a crossover fund before transitioning into pure public market investing, where he co-founded ActiveAlpha with Vineet Sachdeva.
At SAC Capital (now Point72), one of the world's most successful hedge funds, Raghav co-founded a long-only fund where he was jointly responsible for managing over $1 billion in invested capital. Prior to that, he worked at Goldman Sachs in London and McKinsey & Company in New York.
Factor investing in India is not about importing Western models. It's about understanding India's unique market microstructure and building from the ground up.

Over 30 years of experience in investment management, private equity, and banking.
Vineet Sachdeva has over 30 years of experience in investment management, private equity, and banking, with more than 15 years dedicated specifically to systematic and factor-based investing in India.
Vineet's tenure at D.E. Shaw, one of the world's largest global hedge funds, was foundational to the systematic investing philosophy that underpins ActiveAlpha. At D.E. Shaw India, he served as Senior Partner and Co-Head, jointly responsible for close to $2 billion in invested capital. The firm had a joint venture with Reliance Industries at the time, which ended around 2011-12 when Reliance pivoted toward telecom and retail.
The intellectual seeds of ActiveAlpha were planted during this period. As Vineet has noted: "This whole thought process started when I was in D.E. Shaw... the thought process has been that systematic and non-information-arbitrage-based investing can also make money. And we've proven that over the last 12, 13 years."
People would say this is rubbish, doesn't work. We've been doing systematic factor-based investing for 15 years and have proven them wrong — consistently in the top 10%.

What Defines
ActiveAlpha
The company's culture and operating philosophy reflect the founders' shared conviction that disciplined, systematic processes produce superior outcomes — in investing and in building an institution.
Conviction Without Compromise
ActiveAlpha pioneered factor investing in India 15 years ago when the market was deeply skeptical. As Vineet recalls, "People would say this is rubbish, doesn't work." The founders never changed course. They have faced at least three or four significant periods of challenge in 13 years and have maintained their core thesis throughout. The models evolved, the operational processes improved, but the fundamental belief in systematic, non-information-arbitrage-based investing has remained constant.
Process Over Personality
The systematic approach deliberately removes emotional and cognitive biases from investment decisions. The firm's rules-based methodology ensures transparency, discipline, and scalability — qualities that traditional active managers often struggle to maintain. Every investment decision is driven by data, not gut feeling.
India-First Customization
ActiveAlpha does not import Western factor models. They have redefined traditional factor definitions to reflect what actually works in India — a developing economy where governance quality, promoter behavior, and information asymmetries require a finer analytical lens. This customization is their competitive moat.
On-Ground Advantage
Despite serving global investors, ActiveAlpha maintains deep local roots in India — conducting company due diligence through plant visits and channel checks, assessing corporate governance through local networks, and reacting to market events in real time from the same time zone. This is something no global systematic firm can replicate.
